Spring Valley is a beautiful inland San Diego community surrounded by foothills and the towering San Miguel Mountain to the East. Originally inhabited by the Kumeyaay Indians, it was later named after a local spring by the Spanish padres who lived there in 1775. Today the area is still full of culture and prospering with schools, families and businesses.
Along with several small parks and a vibrant community center, there’s also a ranch that offers horseback riding and the historic Bancroft Ranch House Museum. At Spring Valley’s southern border lies Sweetwater Reservoir, which has many campsites and great fishing spots. Residents can also spend a leisurely Sunday at the Spring Valley Swap Meet. Every March and October the area hosts the San Diego Mud Run, which takes place on a muddy, fun-filled 5-kilometer obstacle course.
